Is the unrated version of Saw 3 scarier than the R one?

My friend and I rented Saw 3, not noticing it was the unrated version until after. We watched Saw 2 last night, and that one was the rated R version. Is the unrated version scarier? Or more gory? What's the difference? Were kinda nervous to watch it.
